Abstract

This paper examines the challenges of advocating and implementing open access as a lone scholarly communications librarian in a university that has traditionally been teaching-, rather than research-focussed. Looking at the wider benefits of the REF, particularly those around social justice and ethics, could be a starting point for a culture change towards open access within a university, particularly when these benefits are matched against the University’s stated values.
