In June 2017 Rob Ball and Karen Shepherdson were commissioned to make photographic portraits as part of Cliftonville’s Walpole Bay Tidal Pool’s 80th anniversary celebrations. These photographs contribute to both Ball and Shepherdson’s practice based research, considering how diverse coastal communities make use of democratic, free seaside spaces and how the medium of photography can contribute to innovative, positive (re)presention, (re)interpretation and (re)evaluation of previously disregarded coastal sites.
This practice based research has been supported by the Centre for Practice-Based Reseach in the Arts, the Centre for Research on Communities and Cultures, SEAS Photography, Arts Council England and A Better Cliftonville.
