This chapter surveys the role of oracular intelligence in the astral magic practices of the 15th century philosopher Marsilio Ficino. It argues that Ficino's natural magic lays the ground for a fully theurgic working of symbol, with the ultimate aim of the salvation of the soul. This process was highly dangerous within the climate of traditional Christianity, and the chapter demonstrates Ficino's difficulties in reconciling pagan magical practice with the theological restrictions of the time.
